Description

Kitsune Games is an inclusive indie video game development studio founded by Eniko Fox. Through its mission, "traditional games made accessible and diverse", the studio strives to make the world a better place by offering quality, accessible entertainment with representation of people from all walks of life.

History

Ancient History

Around 20 years ago, when people still used dial-up to connect to the internet, the two founders met, hit it off and began making games together. Those games were generally obscure table top role playing campaigns that they played with a few friends. Even then Eniko Fox’s passion for games programming manifested when she built a database that could track characters in their games.

The Early Days

In 2012, while living in Japan, Eniko released her first game, MidBoss. Made for Ludum Dare, it was well received and seeing people enjoy the game cemented the decision to become a full-time independent developer. So, she created a Dutch company called Kitsune Games and began developing MidBoss into a fully featured rogue-like, building nearly every aspect of it with her own two hands.

At a similar time, James was starting his first full-time business venture, an online shop, which he managed to grow from his initial $4,000 investment into a business capable of sustaining him in just a couple of years.

Founding Kitsune Games LLC

In 2015, Eniko visited the United States to show MidBoss at an event and also visited James, who convinced her they should found the company together in the USA, with him focusing primarily on the business end of things while she finished building MidBoss. On June 22, 2015, Kitsune Games LLC was founded.

MidBoss Release

In May 2017, after four and a half years of development Kitsune Games released its tradition turnbased roguelike MidBoss on Steam.

Super Bernie World

In March of 2020 Kitsune Games published the political activism platformer Super Bernie World, free on Steam. It was covered by outlets such as Vice, The Washington Post, People, ABC, and appeared on primetime news in Japan on the public NHK broadcasting channel. It was the top New and Trending game on the day of its release and became the #4 top free game on Steam for the month of March. By July it had a quarter million installs.
